Discover the story behind Aves de Tierras Altas. Learn how our passion for nature conservation brought this unique sanctuary to life
Our History
Eliette had the vision to find a retreat that would also allow them to promote wildlife conservation. This led her to Bijagua, where she acquired land previously used for cattle ranching, which had been completely deforested. She began reforesting the land, creating a botanical garden, and building a small winery. Over time, as the vegetation grew, the area began to function as a biological corridor for wildlife.
“Aves de Tierras Altas was born with the mission of creating a conservation space, where wildlife and tropical rainforest reemerge from a space that years ago was exploited and deforested by its former owners”
In her desire to promote education and wildlife-friendly tourism, Eliette decided to build two fully equipped cabins, adapted to the environment, with the intention of welcoming respectful, nature-loving visitors. Currently, Aves de Tierras Altas has three bungalows surrounded by rainforest, wildlife, and fresh air.

Citizen science activity in the community of Bijagua
At Aves de Tierras Altas, we believe that conserving biodiversity is essential for maintaining the balance of our ecosystems. We are proud to promote and support initiatives that protect the wildlife of the tropical rainforest. Recently, we sponsored and led a citizen science activity in the community of Bijagua, focused on tracking and monitoring the tapir within the Tenorio Miravalles Biological Corridor. This initiative not only engages the local community but also fosters a deeper connection with nature, allowing us to contribute to the conservation of key species.
